One hundred and eighty-three people attended the 2009 One-on-One Plus Conference. Editors, agents, art directors, published authors, and illustrators
volunteered their time to work one-on-one with a select group of aspiring authors
and illustrators from all over the country.

at the registration table.

Meanwhile, during the mentor breakfast, mentors such
as Margery Cuyler (Publisher, Marshall Cavendish
Children's Books), review their mentees' manuscripts
and
prepare for the one-on-one sessions.
Following breakfast, mentors and mentees assembled for
welcoming remarks by Vivian Grey, RUCCL founder and
council chair.
Following her remarks, Vivian was presented with an engraved plate from the Rutgers Council, marking her forty years as an advocate for children's literature and nurturer of new generations of authors and illustrators. The surprise presentation was made by author and council member Denise Lang.
2009 marked the 40th anniversary of the Rutgers University Council on Children's Literature, and Vivian recounted stories
of its founding and early conferences.
